Healthy Living

Water

Water is known to be the best and the most natural hydrating liquid. It promotes cardiovascular health, keeps muscles and joints working, and helps cleanse toxins from your body. Staying hydrated also helps balance your blood sugar, helps relieve headaches, and promotes healthy skin.

Providing and promoting water:

  • creates a plentiful source of low cost refreshment throughout the day;
  • encourages good health and well being among pupils, staff and other adults;
  • reduces tiredness, irritability and distraction from thirst;
  • can have a positive effect on pupils’ concentration throughout the day;
  • demonstrates to parents and to the local community that the school values pupils’ health and wellbeing;
  • raises awareness of the importance of adequate fluid intake and healthy eating as part of a healthy, active lifestyle.

The children are encouraged to bring a bottle of water every day and keep them within the classroom and to get a drink whenever they required throughout the day. Bottles should be labelled clearly with the child’s name Children should take bottles home at night and then refill them for the next day. No other drink will be allowed other than for medical/special needs requirements.

Sun Protection

Fletcher

The hot, scorching sun has prompted Fletcher (Y2) to design a super poster to remind everyone to be careful when outside.

Mental Health Awareness

Mental Health Awareness has obviously been a key issue within some families throughout lockdown. Therefore, as we celebrate Mental Health Awareness week at St. Andrew’s CE Primary School, there are a number of links for families at home to use.

The first has two free stories linking to PSHE (Personal,Social,Health Education) on the ‘Jigsaw’ website. With the stories are also some questions and activities to discuss relating to them and also a calm me/ mindfulness section with a few minutes peaceful reflection guides.

Go Noodle

During the school time table flexi playtime has been incorporated, staff can choose when playtime is best for their class. Brain breaks are also encouraged during the school day to provide “fun and focus”. Staff have been trained to use a program called Go Noddle which provides various brain breaks which include completing stretching and movement activities that help to develop different skills such as cognitive skills, gross motor skills and co-ordination.

Some examples of the bugs that were made. “My class really enjoyed it” expressed Miss Broadley

Miss Luke’s Class Fruit Faces

Miss Luke’s experience of supporting children on Google Classroom is growing daily. One activity that she set for her Year Five pupils was to design and make a healthy fruit face snack.

This activity helped to promote St Andrew’s healthy bodies topic which the children have engaged with enthusiastically.

Caring dogs

We are keen to develop our Healthy Bodies and Mental Health strategies. Caring dogs will be a super asset.
