D&T Day The lesson objective for year 1 children was to create a simple healthy meal without a heat source. The activity children were set was to design and make a healthy fruit face snack. The fruit that the children were given, allowed them to experiment with different colour, size and shape fruit to design their fruit face snack. This activity helped to promote our healthy bodies topic which the children have engaged with enthusiastically. The children were taught the importance of food hygiene before starting this activity. In our present global crisis, with pupils having to spend an increasing amount of time with new technology just to keep in contact with their teachers, it is important that we also concentrate on pupil’s creative abilities. We encourage the children to create their own designs using different materials and to develop their cooking skills. This helps children to develop their creative skills, while also boosting their self-esteem and confidence.
